Cooking Hemp, new method (For Me)

Post by Paul F »

In readyness for the new season I have cooked some hemp, about 7 pints :Thumb:

I had a quick read of a couple of old post, and found one where George had said steaming is a good method, so I gave it a try.

I can confirm, it is a brilliant method, almost all of the hemp opened, it smelt fantastic, not stinking out the house

George notes around 20 mins steaming, but I found it took 30-40 mins depending on quantity I put in each tray, I would say this was down to taking 10-15 mins for the steam to get through the dense seeds.

This will be my cooking method of choice in the future:Wink:

Thanks, George :Hat:

Paul where did you get the steamer also its trade name, I presume it will be ideal for wheat and tares? Regards Martin

Martin the one I have is a Tefal, it is just an electric vegetable steamer, they are available from Argos, currys and places like that, or Amazon on line

Presumably steaming hemp, wheat, tares and similar particle baits, they will retain more of their original flavour, colour and nutrients, since there will be no leeching out into the water, during boiling, just a thought......
