Balanced crust

Post by Mark »

Balanced crust, Dick Walker caught Clarissa on this bait.

I know it's crust but how is it fished, this is something I have never looked into.

The most precious places in the English landscape are those secretive corners,
where you find only elder trees, nettles and dreams. (BB - Denys Watkins-Pitchford).

A blob of paste is simply moulded on to the shank of the hook behind the crust and adjusted so that the crust is critically balanced (i.e. the bait sits lightly on or just above the lake bed with the crust uppermost).

There's a diagram on p.99 of Walker's "Still-Water Angling", in the carp chapter.

It's a great way of fishing.

You're welcome, Mark - and thanks for sorting my avatar so quickly! My copy of the book is a 3rd edition, so the page number might be slightly out if you have a different ediiton.

Don't forget to try it in the margins before you cast it out.
