What is the best way to keep lobworms

as Snape says..........we used to collect them as kids by getting a washing up bowl of warm soapy water and flinging it on the lawn, within minutes loads of worms have popped up and are there for the picking.

The next question is how do you chaps get hold of them, without purchasing them that is.

Do you dig them up in your garden or collect them off the lawn. I never see lobworms on my lawn for some reason, I have heard pouring water on the lawn that contains washing up liquid brings them to the top, again would this work?

Be aware that the washing up liquid will semi kill your grass - sends it yellow for a while.

I too used to choose the local cricket pitch, a small red lensed torch (Maglite in my mouth) then walk the boundary line. Any that end up a little too stretched, discard. As I first said and others have agreed a damaged worm is usually literally the kiss of death to all the others.

When I used to sell lob worms, they were simply kept in the large polystyrene fish boxes in damp shredded newspaper. They were quite happy like this for weeks at a time if they hadn't sold.

Hi gents,im wondering if anyone can tell me why the libworms im collecting are dying after 12 hrs ,for the last 3 nights i have collected them off the lawn but by next morning they are lifeless

Could be wrong but it looks like you've broken those on the pull. What medium are you keeping them in? Damp spagnum moss is probably the best for keeping them fresh but you must ensure they are kept cool....the fridge is ideal.

Try keeping them in damp shredded newspaper rather than soil, they should last for at least a couple of weeks.

Are you putting anything on the lawn to feed and weed it?, this could be killing the worms...just a thought. Damp moss, keep them cool/cold in a ventilated bait tub and they should last a fair while. I keep mine in my metal bait tins with moss and stay cool and in good condition for ages.
