Bit of a brain wave for some new flat ledger weights

Post by Tengisgol »

I was recently clearing out a house for a relative and found a box full of old coins. There were a lot of old pennies and a bit of research told me that only a few were worth anything to collectors or for scrap.

The old grey matter got working on it and I thought they would make good river leger weights. So I glued three together, drilled a hole and put in a split ring and swivel and...hey presto...this is a one ounce flat weight!

I think that the possibilities are considerable and dear old Queen Vic and King George will look good sat on the bottom of the Wye with a few barbel mooching about!

In my early days as a member of the National Anguilla Club we used pennies balanced on the spool to indicate a run.Underneath the reel was placed a hub cap(I used those from Morris Minors)so when you got a run the penny dislodged and fell into the hub cap and made a clatter. They were painted white so you find them in the dark. How times have changed!Arthur Sutton a founder member started making bite alarms so we all started using his AJS models.

A few George III twopenny pieces would be ideal! They must weigh almost an ounce each!!

Now I do like that idea. I'm having a rake around for some funny money tonight. Cheers for the idea.
