Homemade Watson's Folding Minnow Trap
Just finished adding cable ties and parachord to complete this re-design of Bill Watson's folding minnow trap. The main difference is mine is 4" longer and about 1/2" wider, and I've done away with the need for locking tugs for the end plates by using parachord through all five sections. This one also has a proper hole in the entry plate, and said plate's angle is adjustable and locks again by parachord. This version also has a sixth piece, a small toggle, to keep the parachord tight whilst in use. The entry plate shown is just about at 45 degrees, which should provide a good funnelling affect. Just tested how well it sinks, which is good, and it empties very quickly.
By use of fairly slack cable ties positioned catcher up down one side and down on the other, it also folds nice and flat. This trap was designed using computer software and cut out using a laser cutter. Thanks for looking.
Oops, I think I have forgotten to add something!!??

That's really impressive Trevor, what lovely clean cuts, get it over the side, can't wait to see if it works.

Cracking job Trevor, what self respecting minnow could refuse!

I felt the earth beneath my feet
Sat by the river and it made me complete.

Cheers , I will try to test it tomorrow after work. I. can only take a little credit for this creation, just for the modifications (hopefully improvements), the real credit for ingenious design goes to Bill Watson and for quality of the cut to modern day laser cutters. Anyways, if the original worked then this one should!

I'm in awe of the talents on show in this forum ... and here's yet another example.

Cheers Mal. Not a traditional talent per se, but thanks for the compliment. The folding trap would have been incredibly difficult to make using traditional fret saws etc. as in Bill Watson's days. But thanks to a computer design software called Illustrator, this design is fairly simple to draw, and the laser cutter does the real difficult stuff.

I couldn't resist making another one today, but the funnel entry plate on this one is more akin to the original Watson design. Here's an action shot of the laser cutting away! The tiny bright light is the laser beam which I set to 0.02 mm.

Dear Santiago could you possibly repost the pictures if this project? I assume that the original photos were posted using photobucket or something similar that have changed their rules of use? Either way I would be indebted to you if you could revamp this post
