What a great tutorial! Thanks very much for sharing with us WM.

He makes it sound so easy, doesn't he? That lot would have taken me a week! And they'd have been rubbish. It's would take me all day to set up the vertical slide on the lathe........did you notice he was milling the slots for the corks two at a time?

A little while ago I bought up the last of the bell-shaped plummets from Dinsmores as they were discontinuing them. There are a still a few out there but they are becoming scarce. These look even prettier!

Beautiful objects, I could easily covet one of those.
I see that you have used Champagne corks, will there be a standard version with cheap plonk corks?

I had better put out a post on this as there have been other, similar enquiries by PM..

I initially made a few of different sizes as an experiment, just to see if it could be done.
They were not particularly well made but nevertheless, very kindly received by the other TFFers out there.
I then made quite a lot, using up all the 5/8" copper that I had left over from other jobs and with Mark's blessing, offered them to anyone who would like one in return for a donation toward the running costs of the TFF. All went, as well as some additional brass ones as I ran out of copper...even all of the earlier, scruffy ones!
Because of work pressure at the present time, I cannot make any more yet, but there may be another small run of brass ones at a later date; unfortunately no more copper ones because of the high cost of buying the metal bar.
