'Holdwell' Rod Rest

Post by Wagtail »

Amongst a bundle of rod bits bought from a recycling centre was the butt of an Allcocks Holdwell with nice oval gold label. On getting it home and 'having a play' the handle split in two with a large puther of dust... the dreaded worm had been munching away at the wood underneath the cork! Still, the cane was ok, so what to do? The brass reel seats were perfect for another rod on the restoration list, and I've made a rod rest from the cane, some brass rod and some kind of drill head that I got from a boot sale with the intention of using as the spike on a bank stick. Not the best pictures but you'll get the idea...

Terrific upcycling Alex 👍
I walked across an empty land
I knew the pathway like the back of my hand
I felt the earth beneath my feet
Sat by the river and it made me complete.

That's really very clever! Nicely done sir and there can't be a better label for a rod rest!

I hadn't though about the name but you're right, it is very appropriate :Hat:
