Is this the pinnacle of traditional amateur tackle making?

Today I received a very good copy of George Parker Holden‘s „The Idyl of the Split Bamboo „. Next to the famous rod making section it includes a chapter on silk gut making. To me this is really the pinnacle of tackle making for amateurs.

Amazing how far some people would go to make their own equipment. The early tackle books do show some very inventive things and are always worth a read through.

An outstanding book that influenced many rod makers professional and amateur.
Had a big input with Charles Ritz and parabolic rod makers.

Interesting. I did not know that Holden had much influence on Ritz. I read that he influenced Garrisson a lot. It seems that Garrisson started with a planing form that he borrowed from Holden. If you compare Holdens book with later rod making books there is not much new invented. He was certainly well ahead of his time. Thanks, Bobby
