Gerry's of Wimbledon

Post by Macko »

A nephew of mine said he had heard Gerry's was closing down, has anybody heard
anything to substantiate this.

Oh no!
I was born in Wimbledon and went to school there so Gerry's was part of my childhood. Sad times! :(

Really? It's always busy in there! I'm the other side of London but I make an occasional visit- staff there are always nice to talk to..

I had heard - rumours? - that the owner was retiring and it was up for sale!

Unfortunately that seems to happen quite a lot.
My local tackle shop(specialist angling) in collier row, Romford went the same way, luckily another tackle shop from Woodford in Essex, Keswells, had been priced out of their shop in a rent rise so took the collier row shop over. Sad but like a lot of thinks tackle is purchased much more on line these days

The chap on the Talk Sport radio show early Sunday morning said, the shop is up for sale as the current owner had been there 40+ years and was now retiring.

Would be very sad if it goes the way of many other Tackle shops, I've only been there a couple of times even though I do not live that far from it and the staff are always very friendly.

Fingers crossed someone buys it to keep it going.
