In search for the finest British Tackle shop!

Do you know of a good traditional fishing tackle shop, past and present.

In search for the finest British Tackle shop!

Post by The Tuesday Swim »

There has been much discussion on old lost tackle shops and the continued closing down of such establishments.

Well I have had a thought, lets find the remaining 'good' tackle shops within the UK and list them here.

I don't think any rules should be set although personal service should be considered as a high priority.

Once an established list has been put together perhaps Mark could put up a poll and we could name the finest tackle shop still surviving.

BUT, most importantly we need to support them.

I think this is a marvellous idea. These shops should be supported wherever and whenever we can. Let's hope it's a long list.

I have a feeling it will be a rather short list.

I would also like to include Southern Ireland in this as there are still a few good ones there. Do we have any Southern Ireland forum members?

Barry, I too spent time working in a tackle shop in Haywards Heath...Sporting Chance. It wasn't too bad, it was still before the carp scene had really kicked off, around 1988. I spent most of the time building myself three carp rods from some old North Western Blanks I found in the basement.

I'm afraid there will be no possibilities from me, in this neck of the woods. All of the local shops are either carp or sea orientated. None have the feel of what I would term a traditional tackle shop. I always get the feeling, give us your money and get out.

3. Alans Fishing Tackle, Worcester

Alans get my vote - Ellen and her son George along with Chris run a great little tackle shop and do their utmost to help.

My local t/s - on the edge of the Colne Valley this family business have been providing a first class service for over 30 years. I wouldn't think of looking elsewhere.
