5oz gudgeon caught?

Post by Snape »

I have seen this on the Facebook gudgeon group. It says it's a 5oz gudgeon...

I suppose it depends on how big his hands are. To go 5 oz I would have thought Michaelangelo's David size myself.

On my medium-sized paw that would be about 16cm/6 1/2 inches, which on a fairly chunky gudge would be about 2 1/2 oz, usually. That is an exceptionally chunky one, but even so, I have my doubts. (I remember having one such carefully weighed on beam-scales after a match, many years ago. Almost square in section, it seemed - the average gudgeon being almost triangular. The big 'uns do seem to pack on some back-muscle!)

Impossible to estimate the size accurately from the poor angle the photo is taken at.

It is enormous and many times bigger than any gudgeon I've caught.

It's a big gudgeon but it doesn't look 5 oz to me in this picture. It would also have been nice to see damp hands handling it.

I caught some huge gudgeon from the wandle before it was polluted a few years back.
I know the pollution didn't effect the whole river so probably still a few monsters in there at one point I honestly thought it was going to do the record.
What a great picture such wonderful looking fish well done that man whatever the size!
