Off to Britford tomorrow, all advice welcome please
Chaps, as the title says...
I will be trying to contact Stuart today but a few questions you may be able to help with:
- what time does it open?
- where is the entrance and car park?
- any tips on where to start in search of a roach?
Many thanks (in more anticipation than could possibly be imagined!).

hi tenisgol, i fish britford quite a bit, take the road down to bridge farm and you will see a sign for the fishery, stuart the keeper is normally there at 9am, he has a portocabin in the carpark,if its roach your after, harnam bridge on the island is where i would try, if your after chub or barbel i would go down stream from the carpark where the two rivers meet together but its quite a hike,so i tend to travel light and roam from swim to swim trotting a float, but it might pay to try a feeder or touch ledger, it may have a bit of colour in it at the moment, dont overlook the magins as ive spotted many a barbel right under my feet. fishing maggots you will have problems with millions of minnows, but the cold weather may have knocked them back a bit. it is best fished in the winter in my view, there are some cracking dace in the old river plus grayling and some good perch and lots of pike, in the summer i fish tares for the roach as the minnows tend to leave tares alone, so i would try bread flake ,cheese, or worm. best of luck and please let me know how you get on. chubman.

Hi Phil,
I am very envious of your trip to Britford, as Chubman has said it is a great fishery, with lots of options available. I haven't fished it myself for years, but I have fond memories of every visit I made. Travel light as there is a lot of water available, but I would be surprised if you are not delighted after your visit. I fished the "compound" at the Royalty at Christchurch many times in the past, even though I didn't catch lots on every visit, just being there is an absolute pleasure. Enjoy your trip and take some pictures!

Thanks chaps, I managed to contact Stuart and arranged to meet him tomorrow. He was excellent on the phone as had been foretold by others. This is a very important trip for me. I used to fish the Avon for roach many years ago and it will be the first time I have put my feet in it for a long time. Back in the day I was lucky enough to land a handful of great big ones and, when I walked away, I wasn't sure I would ever go back.
So I am looking forward to this a lot and I thank you for your help and thoughts above.
