Re: "The Dorset"
Enneyalice, for those who don't know him, is Dave Austin who makes built can landing net sand the like. he tells me he's made a few for the GSC.
What an unnecessary thing to say......and not true anyway...loads of folk do a first coat of varnish to stop the silks slipping and to be sure the cane is protected from any water getting in to the silk.

Yup!! I can vouch for that. Although my net and handle now resides with none other than Gary Mills, reelmaker of renown, but he didn't get it from me. :o Don't ask!!!!.....it's a long story and a very small world, I've realised.Nobby wrote:Enneyalice, for those who don't know him, is Dave Austin who makes built can landing net sand the like. he tells me he's made a few for the GSC.

Re: "The Dorset"
It is indeed a very small world Colonel, and full of co-incidences too.
Here we are on a thread about the Dorset rod, and mentioning the GSC.....and I happen to know that a member of the GSC is selling one ;-)
If our world gets any smaller we'll have to stand on one leg soon.
What I want to know is where do you go to improve upon a Conquest reel?

Yes, I know, Nobby. I'm hoping against hope that Izaak will not hold it against me for such an act of treachery but I'm rather struck with Mr Mills' creations, as you've probably guessed :hat: . I've a mind to have him make a Starback, narrow drum for me. I feel ' The Colonel's Classic Centrepin' beckoning me.............or do you think I've finally lost my marbles, along with my pension????Nobby wrote:It is indeed a very small world Colonel, and full of co-incidences too.

Re: "The Dorset"
I did feel you might be going for a custom built job, otherwise why sell the Hardy.
Perversely, I'd dearly love a Conquest, preferably the one with the little crescent adjuster on the back.
But I did fancy one long before i found out You Know Who uses one....honest!
I prefer narrow drums too....little fat fingers, you see.
Do let us see what Mr. Mills makes for you and good luck with your auctions...so far they're going rather well.
