I too will declare an interest, so please add me to the list, and would favour aluminium, BSF, and recessed. Many thanks for going to the trouble of doing all this Beresford.
Hi Beresford
Please may i register my interest for parts.
I have just made my Handle from a Split Cane Beach caster and I have a large aluminium framed almost round net that is past it's prime.
I would prefer BSF threads and Countersunk screws. The spreader block I will try to make from Carp Brand Tufnol. It is quite easy to work and does not require anodising like Aluminium to prevent oxidation. I still have the one for my 1972 Carp net I made..
Thank you all for your input that gives a clear indication that we all want a specification that is as close to the original as possible. The engineers did say to me that if I could present them with an original they could copy it exactly but I think that may be difficult to impossible! However, I suspect there may be some more questions to come for your views.
The engineers did also raise anodising with me. So this is something I'll ask them to cost.
I'm very keen to get this absolutely right and to an agreed specification – if that means the process is a little slow I apologise but I remain hopeful that it will be worth it.
Another update to say this hasn't fallen by the way side – I've just been busy with work. However, I'm still expecting to have the quotes for the first parts during next week.
An update – sorry for the long delay, my day-to-day work got in the way. The drawings and specification have been delivered to the engineers and I expect their quote if not by the end of this week, then for early next week.
I have asked for an alloy spreader block to be costed as an optional extra.
If this quote looks reasonable then I shall be making contact with a couple of people to see if it would be possible to order a small batch of cane arms and I shall start the hunt for suitable handle poles.
