Re: Oliver's of Knebworth
If you want 'lightness' and strength when fishing over heavy marginal weed using a landing net pole of 3m+ what is your choice other than c@>>@n or glass? I currently use a modified Salmon rod in cane and providing you set yourself up right its all achievable. I prefer specialist kit for tricky situations rather than just walking past.. or making do and losing what you hook.Badger1 wrote:Both the Oliver's "MKIVs" I have are super rods which I use for Carp/Pike through to Barbel, the Avon is a super rod too but they seem hard to find. The "MKIVs" however are not the same taper as a "true" MKIV. The taper is almost extended into the tip section i.e. a beefer bottom section which continues into the tip for a little bit. Great rods.
The only Oliver's rod which is questionable in a sense of why you'd want it is the 13/14' Tench rods. Masterfully made but god they are heavy despite being hollowed.
Oliver's were not the only one's to do this.. Chapman's did the Hunter in 14' and if anyone has one going spare please PM me.

Re: Oliver's of Knebworth
Just got my Olivers MK1V Carp rod back from Paul Cook after a quality refurbish, it stands proud in my rod rack as if it was purchased yesterday, "Stunning" is the only way I can describe it. Thank you Paul for the good service and safe delivery. I plan to use it shortly to catch a carp on a potato bait, in the margins where I can watch the fish pick up the bait'
