Seven is my new lucky number ...plus a surprise
My Pike season has not got off to the best of starts . Six trips and 6 blanks . The Hardy LRH No 2 's , and Gildex reels , all decked out in their finery , and performing well but no fish to fully test their mettle !
So trip number 7 dawned .
Jeff and I set sail in the good ship " Finatic" , and soon a few dead baits were soaking in the murky waters of the Arun . Then at last the float disappeared and the LRH and Gildex got put through their paces , with a rather angry 16lb Pike . So seventh trip lucky !
After the excitement the baits were placed back and I was quickly in for a surprise , as my float sailed merrily uptream and disappeared in quick time . After a short but spirited fight , a Bass appeared in the landing net ! This is my third Bass from the tidal river over the last 15 years while Pike fishing . The river while being tidal is completely fresh here , and is some 15 miles from the sea .
Anyone else has any surprise Bass while river fishing ?
Trip number 8 also resulted in a great Pike of 18lb . The LRH taking on a real battle curve and easily coping with the powerful fish . The Gildex were also really good and are fast becoming my favourite reels !

Lovely pike and a bass? I've had chub on dead baits but a bass? Incredible.

All things come to he who waits. Lovely pike.
The coiled line travels from the reel, it brings up at last, the hook goes home, and then begins the test of skill. "BB"

Great pike, but the bass is equally as good a capture in freshwater.
