Waistcoat suggestions?

Post by Nobby »

My old waistcoat has more repairs than I can count and it's time to replace it.

My problem is that I am fussy!

I want two big, top entry, pockets down near the waistline and a couple of others too. I want it deep...not like some wading fly fishing jackets meant to keep the pockets out of the water, but a proper full length. And it needs to come in a large size too...probably a xxl or a 54 inch chest.

eBay is littered with cheap stuff, but I want a decent material that will stand days and days out in the full sun and the occasional rain shower....just as my old one has.

Any suggestions fellers?

You've just described the John Wilson Masterline Wanderer waistcoat.

Which is seemingly no longer made, sadly.

Perhaps a good one will come up on ebay soon. Worth a wait!

The worst waistcoat I ever bought was the 32 pocketed Orvis Fly, I spent more time searching for a spool of line than I did fishing....too many pockets. Your description sounds about right.

As as alternative what about a Barbour Bedale Jacket. They're just a tad longer than a waistcoat and possibly the shortest Barbour jacket. And they have two nice big pockets. Ought to be plenty on ebay.

Mentioned this one before, not cheap but very nicely made and I've found it to be very practical. :Hat:
