Splendid work, Young Sir !!! :Hat:

Well, my summer rod building campaign has kicked off nicely - my first build is my version of a Chapman 500... the rod that started my "serious" angling career. Threads are CP'd and tunnels filled ready for filling the threads before varnishing. This rod has low bells guides with a matching low threaded tip ring, making it a great all rounder. The cork ball end of the handle on the 500 always seems to suffer from damage so I built my handle with a butt cap and cushion. I aso prefer a cigar shape so have used this with an alloy collar.

Credits on this build go to
Dave Burr - butt and intermediate guides.
Paul F - ferrules, butt cap, alloy collar and black/white jasper whipping thread.
Ebay - tip guide, cork and alloy tube for handle.
Romsey donor rod- butt cushion and sliding reel bands.

Thank you chaps.

I've just baked the cane for the next build - a Chapman 600, planing to final taper for this will begin by the weekend.
If I can figure how to get photobucket to make the pictures larger I will but in the meantime I hope you get the idea.

Cheers
Steve

Hi Steve,
can't see any pictures, only this logo.
Wonder why that is?

Gaaahh - photobucket wants me to pay to allow pictures on forums.

Have just been trying Imgur but am getting a timeout error message from that.

Hhmm, I've had a fiddle with image size which seems to have helped.

Thanks Sean for the advice

Looks very nice indeed :Hat:

If I could have only one rod, it would probably be a '500'.

It is very satisfying to make any rod that you might fancy, I find the hardest thing is choosing which rod to make.

Have been giving gentle thought to making a 'Craftversa' for a while now.
A forum member has kindly offered to give me the tapers from an original, but this won't give me the reverse taper under the cork of course...

Looking forward to seeing your completed '600'
