New Member.. JockScott. Allcocks reels

Post by JockScott »

Being a quiet individual I have in the past avoided any kind of forums. This one seems different.
I am 70 years old next January and have been a collector/user of vintage Allcocks/Youngs tackle all my life but mostly Reels and mostly coarse but not just pins. I still use a cane rod I bought with money I earned from my paper round in 1963 with a Coxon inherited.
Over my time and it will be no surprise I have amassed a wealth of knowledge within my little area of expertise. Browsing the TF forum reading comments, questions and statements being made and often quite incorrect has prompted me into helping and sharing my own findings.
When compiling information for a book most people have to rely on personal research from tackle owned, from other tackle owners and other writings.
BUT please do not treat ALL writings as gospel. You have to remember we are bombarded with glossy catalogues and various methods of marketing to sell this years model. This is something that only really took off in the 50,s especially for Allcocks and before ww2 catalogues were produced purely for the retailer and these catalogues were not produced every year so it can often be very difficult to be exact about dates. On occasion Allcocks would introduce and item simply to test the market before being catalogued. The ones that never got to the catalogue or were altered or modified
are rare and very desirable.
I simply want to say if you have a reel that you want an "opinion" on I would be happy to help if I can.... Post it.

Welcome Sir. I for one would certainly like to see some images of your collection.
I have laid aside business, and gone a'fishing.
