Here you go - a bite alarm from back in the day.Old Man River wrote: ↑Wed Feb 12, 2020 3:25 pm Maybe a daft question, what is an Optonic ? Something to do with upside down bottles of Scotch etc, ?
OMR
They finally got an upgrade to something far better from Del Romang who later started Delkim with Kim Donaldson, another conversion was by Les Bamford along similar lines.
Here’s a pic of the original Optonics with sounder built in you could also purchase the heads with a separate sounder box.

Too fancy for me Peter, a bit of stick with a slit cut into it works fine . And they dont need batteries.

They were the upgraded ones - SUPERs. Followed by XL versions. I think one of the first was either Lo or Hi tones.
Del converted my Optonics XLs and Herons at the same time.

They still work fine and definitely old school, if not quite vintage...

Re: Optonic bobbins
Back to the bobbins, they were included with the Optonics for the first few years of sales. I used to stretch them apart to form a larger loop and fish them on angled needles. I never saw anyone else do that, but they worked well like that.
