Hmmm! Looks like more research is needed, as well as a few more examples to study.
Incidentally, I’ve just pulled more of the white (silk?) line off and there it’s a dark green thinner line under that.

I think it must be. Certainly matches fly line in photos of Hardy fly reels of a similar period.

I believe this reel to be a Junia, one of the very early Grice and Young Reels. I have no evidence, more a case of putting two and two together.
