Most hackles will be cock, and will have longer narrower and pointed hackles, compared to hen hackles. 2 3 4 are cock hackles, whilst I think 1 and 5 are hen.

You might find some more advice pouring through the pages of thea bove.

11 - may be guinea fowl
9 - possibly a hare mask
8 - deer hair

Is this the all new TFF Lockdown on-line quiz? Now that's an idea.

I will give it some thought over a glass of something this evening.
Believe me, my young friend, there is nothing - absolutely nothing - half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats.

I will claim the following:

1 Hen dyed Flu orange
2 Cock cree or grizzel dyed olive green
3 Cock dark greenwells or verging on furnace
4 Cock white
5 hen LBJ (a little brown jobby) NB BUGS looks like there might be some insect activity in that one. So stick all of it in the freezer for a week to kill them off.
6 Cock dyed sky blue
7 Cock ginger
8 Deer hair
9 A fox or mink stole?
10 grouse?
11Guinea Fowl

But it has made me think why is there not a better term for a "white" cape.

I agree with what OMO said. But #3 is furnace and #9 mink. #10 is definitely grouse. I have a grouse wing staring at me right now telling me to get busy with it.

Hen hackle is what you want to use for wet flies/spiders. That flo. orange, wow! Too much for my liking, but you may have to get creative with that like maybe use a few fibers from a feather to accent something like what I did here with a red feather.

Cock is what you use for dry flies. #7 & #3 are your best looking hackles. They look clean.

Do you see the red streak going down the side from the head of the fly? You can do something like that with it. But it's your flies, you do what you want, you're a bright young fella, you can come up with something I'm sure and it'll be awesome!

as long as it not Lady Gaga's dog collection you have bought - she has been robbed of them, walker shot as well. Crazy times - just glad we have our peaceful pastimes.
