Abu Cardinal 656bw....

I am awaiting delivery of a pair of Abu Cardinal 656bw free spool reels, purchased from fleabay for 50 of our GB pounds.
These are intended to go on and stay on my new to me pair of Terry Eustace fibreglass pike rods. Is anyone familiar with these reels, they do look a touch old school rather than traditional, but I have to admit I did buy them blind.

On the reel foot of the 656bw is 87-1, and separately 88-89. Can I take it they are from the late 80s, even Jan 1987 possibly.
