The facebook post is a little unclear but it is described as Littlehampton river. It looks like they may have been washed downstream to where they were found. On closer inspection of the photos, the majority of the fish look like they may be trout (not tench  ) with some roach mixed in but it is not easy to tell. Does Chalk springs trout fishery flow into the Arun? I suppose they could have been flushed out of there and died in the salt water.

A flood has been known elsewhere to enter a stillwater - - the stock go with the flow!

Chalk Springs does trickle into the river and there is also a coarse fishery ,a "snake lake" l think , on the banks of the Arun at Arundel. Both are above the flood line though and anyway coarse fish and trout are found naturally along that stretch with the mullet ,bass and flatties .
Not that many years ago a fish kill was traced to the sewage works at Horsham after waste was freed into the Arun during flood conditions. Several miles of river downstream were declared vitually devoid of invertibrates . Luckily there has been some recovery. Shortly afterwards we were canoeing and found several dead fish above Stopham bridge which may have come down with the current . Or had the pollution affected a longer stretch of rivrr than the EA admitted?
Most intriquing, there was the corpse of a bass amongst them. This was 15 miles from the sea !
In order to shoot some close-ups, wildlife photographer ,the late Len Scapstillon, lured the orca to him by dressing as a seal.......
