Creel info pt2

Post by LaurieTheLedger »

Hi all, following on from my previous post re my creel and it’s lead parts, can anyone advise where best to buy a replacement canvas and leather carry strap? Also what would be the best solution to replace worn lid hinges?
Would a couple of high quality leather straps work?

Thank again for your excellent support with my questions.

Laurie

The lid hinges, would I think originally have been twisted willow. This is semi-obvious by the gaps either side of the current hinges. I show, one of my fathers interwoven basket ends (see your previous post) and one of the correct twisted willow hinges.

You need the correct willow to make and twist the hinges before inserting into the basket - and this is impossible to do - even for me and I have watched him do it thousands of times.

Replacement - you can buy scrap lather off ebay, cut into a narrow length, can be inserted between the weave and hinge, several times to make a good hinge - Here is one I did some time ago (pinched the leather off a discarded leather settee)

Hope this helps and sorry I missed your original post

I replaced my knackered willow hinges with leather straps, they work well.

Contact Steve from traditional angling, a member on here for a replacement strap, they are very good.

Hi mate,

Can you supply me a link to him? I’m having trouble finding him.
Thanks indeed
