Home-made cheese paste was all we used for many years through the seventies on the Wye 😊.
Fond memories indeed 👍
It's not just about the fish, if waters are calm or rough, even if the net stays dry, just being there's enough.

Paste on a hair rigged cork ball - makes it more buoyant.
That’s an interesting idea :Hat:

Or a pop-up boilie. If the paste gets nibbled off, you still have a bait.

This triggered something in my small brain.
I cut some flat pieces about 8mm thick out of a champagne cork and made a crude punch from some tube.
The resultant punched cork looks exactly like a brown pellet.
Will try this out at the club pond with some paste moulded around the hair rigged cork, but I think the cork might work equally well as it is.

Just made some.
A year old stilton in my fridge... ripe!
Wizzed it up in my bullet. A little water and a some bone dry bead crumbs that I picked up tonight from by bakers ancient bread cutting machine.
Merky water...

The close season is an important and interesting time for the Angler who set out to catch big fish. It is a timely opportunity for him to make new tackle or renovate old. There are no end of jobs to do, apart from those horrible things called Gardens!
