Yes, he uses them, but in a whole cane / built cane / built cane format. I'm talking about whole / whole / built.

I think your rod is not strong enough for Barbel. In my opinion it is a match rod for tiddlers.
Looking the material over the cork on the buttsection it is nearly sure spanish reed.
But this is a discusion that we had a few times before...I donot think it is cane, perhaps
one of our specialists knows better..A really nice rod at all(Restored or not )..Well done for this price

This rod CY uses might be an early Avon rod like that Mr Crabtree uses....

hi md i agree with nobby the bottom two sections look like spanish reed and it will definateley make a fine roach rod all you have to do is use an apropriate main line and hook length and you will be fine these rods were built to be used with a lot of finesse so use and enjoy it

Yes, I read through that thread. Nice rod and fish. Obviously more power in the 12fter from that bit of spliced built cane on the middle section. :Thumb:

At the moment I am thinking Allcocks Flick 'Em, with 4lb line, 2lb hook length and grayling on the Wharfe for the Supreme. Perhaps this weekend if we don't have too much rain.

I do wonder if a Floatcaster would handle slightly bigger fish though?

MD, the middle section of my rod has a spliced in reduced section of whole cane or reed, it is not built cane. So it is only the top section that is built or split cane. :Hat: Reedling.

Oh. I could see that it was reduced, I just assumed it had built cane. I must need more powerful glasses. :Chuckle:

The amount of nodes is a give away for Spanish reed. I have an Abbey and Holdwell that is of the same configuration and neither is suited to anything other than small to medium fish, I'd say 4lb maximum without doing damage to it.

Nice looking rod MD...
