The superglue you have used seems to have worked fine, but if you ever need to lock a thread
again, Locktite also do a 'Threadlock' which they do in two versions, a permanent one and a
temporary one (which I presume is reversible with the application of heat) I have used the permanent
one only, but successfully on many such little projects.

robbi ,you chuck the new line on its carrier spool into the water ,and as you wind the line onto the reel ,it spins in the water ,self righting .there is a danger though when loading a fast open faced reel as they can kick up some spray ,you don't need a bucket a pond or lake will do ,just remember to scoop out the empty carrier spool afterwoods

600 meters of line ! I get very good results when using a very shallow spool and 25 meters of line for float fishing. 100 meters of line for carp fishing is enough for me. Most of the lakes I fish are less than 100 meters wide :-)
