Success. I found some valve rubber in an old puncture repair kit. It works perfectly. Being rubber it has more stretch in it than the more modern and plastic/silicone type.
Just ordered a couple of feet of the stuff. Should see me out, based on how much river fishing I do these days

Cycle valve tube arrived. Sliced up and has made loads of float rubbers. Ideal for my cane stemmed floats.

I found that if one bought the old vintage rubber valve tubing, it had more of a rubbery consistency, unlike the imported modern type which was is more like a tight silicon tubing, usually has a lighter colour slightly pink appearance .....

Yes, it is definitely more rubber like in texture. The stuff I have is a sort of light buff colour.

I always use silicon tubing and cut to suit.
