Thanks Harry. The only thing that comes up in a search for these is a "Try-cast spring tip".The blurb states "These tips are unique as they feature a spring which when under tension has less power which means fish feel little or no resistance". does that sound like the Pattison type? Do you recall what the Pattison was made of? I wonder why it went out of production?

Thats the exact thing... I loved mine... I don't think that Pattison are in business any longer sadly... the Tri/Try-Cast one sounds the same...

Well, at least you know where you can get a similar one now.
Sounds intriguing I must say.

Here is a short spring tip I have, I have a longer one but cannot put my hands on it at present. Is this the type talked about?

That's the one only the fibreglass section was about 8-10 inches long... the spring was quite fine and held the tip in place, but as soon as pressure was put on the tip it folded neatly over... the Tri-cast ones are put over for their c*rb*n rods, the universal ones only for those that have push in tips not for the screw in tip variety...

I have a much longer spring tip somewhere but cannot lay my hands on it. Here is a slightly longer spring tip which has Robin Harris printed on the stem, I have also included a few other devices that were in the box.
