Home-made cheese paste was all we used for many years through the seventies on the Wye 😊.

Or a pop-up boilie. If the paste gets nibbled off, you still have a bait.

This triggered something in my small brain.
I cut some flat pieces about 8mm thick out of a champagne cork and made a crude punch from some tube.
The resultant punched cork looks exactly like a brown pellet.
Will try this out at the club pond with some paste moulded around the hair rigged cork, but I think the cork might work equally well as it is.

Just made some.
A year old stilton in my fridge... ripe!
Wizzed it up in my bullet. A little water and a some bone dry bead crumbs that I picked up tonight from by bakers ancient bread cutting machine.
Merky water...
