I paid £65 for this last year, it's in good condition but doesn't have the check mechanism like Marks. I think its from the same manufacturer though.

There is some information here, but no exact year or date

and in 'Old Fishing Tackle' by Nigel Dowden, he states that Slater started making rods in 1852 and reels after that (p.14) but gives no date for the latch, he goes on to say there was no patent registered for the latch.
