Work is continuing. I'm waiting for the glue to set. I have fitted the handle and the two arms (currently clamped in my vice. Interesting working with whole cane as it its not true and square. Hopefully despite this it will fire straight. When the glue dries I will get another picture up. Before fitting the handle I bored a hole in the base. My plan being to turn a knob to fit on the bottom. The arms are looking a bit long. I'll measure my old plastic job and cut the cane ones to the same size.

Progress today

Image

All of the main parts glued

Button fitted and a bit of whipping added. The arms look a bit uneven in the picture, but they are the same length.

Since this picture, it has been cleaned up a bit and the first coat of varnish applied

Nice work MGs :Thumb:
I walked across an empty land
I knew the pathway like the back of my hand
I felt the earth beneath my feet
Sat by the river and it made me complete.

Having had three catapults break on me on a recent trip, what rubber are you going to be using, my poor wrist is looking for something reliable

Catapult elastic is another thing that doesn't seem to last very long these days. I used to change my elastics as part of my close season jobs but seem to be forever fitting them these days.

Bring back the good old solid rubber ones.

The only stuff accessible locally is Middy (black) £2.10.

Maybe I don't use my catapult that often. The one I am replacing, had its original elastic on (probably more than 20 years old). I do have to agree that I prefer the good old fashioned solid, square rubber.

I always used to use quarter inch black elastic for my catty's as a nipper.... wonder if that'd work these days :Thumb:

I thought we'd moved on from that video clip :Hahaha:

Back on thread, I agree that the new elastics last no time at all, I once bought a set of four 'pults that were reduced from a big online store. They were evidently old stock as a couple of the elastics had rotted through, the others went very soon after. Maybe I just pull 'em too hard :)

Think I'll do some intergoogle searching for a better option.
