Much seems, as with everything, to be down to condition. This didn't get any bids at £40 but looks to be in worse condition than yours.

Looks to be nothing wrong with yours, apart from the deck chair whipping which isn't going to be to everyone's taste

It's worth noting that there are both Sabina and Sabrina rods....no-one is quite sure if they were different rods or a spelling mistake at the transfer suppliers that wasn't noticed.


Certainly the rods appear with whole cane butts, split cane butts and even fibreglass tip sections. As well as being found in several lengths. They are nothing particularly special, though perfectly sound rods, but a shortage of good rods around means that a clean one can make £100 these days, just like a rod from neighbouring Marco, or an Edgar Sealey rod.


Time was you'd pick any rod from these makers for £15 ...ah, well.

I had a 10' (poss 10'6", I can't remember) and it was heavy; I'd not like to wield its 12' cousin for long.

Good cane, cheap fittings, far too short in the handle, were my impressions; if I were given one, I'd either offload it quick (they seem way over-valued at the moment), or try to bodge up a "Fighting butt" type extension for the handle.

The one on ebay has two glass tips. Bargepole job, I'm afraid. My opinion only, of course...

I had wondered if that one was original...the whippings look right, but then I saw the cane tip section ferrule counter........ah!

Shaving cane down to fit an undersized ferrule....bit risky. I'd guess that means the joint ferrule is non-original too?

Still....it's survived this long.
