3 X 5 RPM disco mirror ball motors. whole cost less than £20 to make.

Nobby, you can change the direction of rotation on these by turning them on and off quickly. I know this isn't quite as good as a system that changes automatically, but it's only for the first 15 minutes or so that you likely to get any problems. That said, I don't even bother to do this and I have yet to have any problems with varnish tearing.

P.S Lovely job on that rod LJM. What colour thread is the blue? looks very similar to a rod I have.
