Nothing is going to match up to 6 hours of APFA, but this came closest for me.
Good call Nobby, also Paul Witcher's Magical Waters again featuring the late John Searl.

Tales of the River Bank with Geoffery Palmer narating and starring here and there, which has Yatesy in one episode blasting a bait boat out of the water with a shotgun. Not availiable on DVD but you can still get it on VHS :Thumb:

"Catching the Impossible" with Martin Bowler and Bernard Cribbins... I'm surprised that no-one has mentioned this.... it may not be dedicated to traditional tackle, but it was filmed and produced (I think) by Hugh Miles and has the APFA feel all over it....!

I`m with Arthur Ransome's Rod and Line with Michael Horden at number two. I prefer the non instructional viewing, there is plenty of instructional viewing around. I like it, when the presentation is along the lines of a story, possibly inspirational, often liked by the non angling fraternity....well the better half liked them...

I also rate this highly - and it does have plenty of traditional or traditional mixed with modern in it.
The 5lb perch, 4lb crucian , 30lb pike , and 44lb float fished common carp are the highlights for me.

There's plenty on Youtube but here's a small selection...

A true legend.
Some interesting posts here. Great to see John Searl appearing and to listen to the missing chapters of Rod and Line.
Thank you all and especially you, Luga. The Ollie Kite's Series is really brilliant. Never seen it before.
My personal second favourite after APFA is still Rod and Line with Sir Michael Hordern. I like the music very much, but I know of people, who think it's annoying. Catching the Im possible has good Music as well. Hugh Miles is a gifted person. I only hope, he and Chris Yates are going to finish their project and give us three more river diaries of the wonderful "Caught in Time" - Series.

The holy grail of angling footage surely has to be the Perch episode of anglers corner
with Bernard Venables. I like to think that it exists somewhere, the only person I know who has seen it is Chris Yates.
He also has seen the barbel episode.

I'm really surprised that no one has mentioned Magical Waters with John Searl.
A real mixture of vintage and modern tackle , but very traditional with most of the approach to fishing.
The barbel fishing on that very beautiful stretch of the Hampshire Avon is superb, as are most of the scenes on this wonderfully filmed video.
However for me the best section of all is when he is fishing at a beautiful remote pool for wild carp with an old MKIV and Mitchell and catches a stunning dark old carp.
