I normally get them in maize which is the only way they are sold up here. I buy maize meal from the Asian section of the supermarket so that I can riddle them and put fresh maize in if they get a bbit sweaty.

If you want to keep maggots for any length of time the best way is to riddle all the maize/bran/sawdust off them and place them in a freezer bag. Squeeze all the air out and store them in a fridge or cool box with some ice pack in it. Open the bag every day for about 5 minutes and then re-seal. They will become dormant and last for well over a week like this. When you want to use them open the bag and pour them into a large bait box. Once they have revived dust them with a little maize to dry them off and they are ready to use. When I used to go up to Loch Lomond I used to store my bait like this and I always had fresh maggots.
