Now that's interesting. Do you have any other information, maybe some photos of the float workshop??

Mike Wilson wrote:Thanks for that GOS. Must find myself a 30's Allcocks catalogue.

Nobby - At Sandown [Carp Society Show] last Sunday I overheard someone telling how a well known tackle company had invented the quick release leads [so making them richer!]. It wasn't my place to tell them that Hardy's were selling 2 versions of 'release' leads prior to the 1930's.
As you say there is little that is new in angling.

Very interesting Harry H.

Will be at the same pub tomorrow for the launch of Roach 2 by Mark Wintle

I'll be propping up the bar no doubt as my friend Dave has to work sadly.

This Allcocks 'Automatic release' pike/sea float is probably the pride of my antique float collection - circa 1915:

Prices for early floats really seem to be on the up presently - perhaps not surprising considering how rare and fragile they are,. but the interest and connection to the past outweighs material values for me. Here's a few more old campaigners:

I believe the one on the far left below is a pelican quill - these ceased production around 1935 due to American conservation laws. The 'snake head' in the centre was a cheap eBay find - they're still out there!

Very nice collection there John, thanks for sharing!

I felt the earth beneath my feet
Sat by the river and it made me complete.
