Re: Zebco Cardinals
The closed face, cone nosed reels featured here are more correctly known as 'spincast', reels rather than 'baitcasting' reels mentioned. Baitcasting ( referred early on in 1930's Hardy catalogues ) referred to casting artificial baits/ lures.
Baitcasting is practiced using baitcasting reels (N America) and multipliers (UK), one and the same reel. Baitcasting rods are particular in design being that they are stiffer as they rapidly store the accelerated stoke of the cast which sets the spool of the reel into action. The rod is used rings up and the rings are many and low so that the line follows the rod upon flexing.
Spincast reels are mostly designed for and used by very young anglers. Here in N America, home of fishing artificial lures, I have yet to see a experienced/ serious angler using one.

I would not say that much different Santiago, spent the first 30 years of my life in the UK and still come ( go) over to fish. I have yet to see a spincast type reel used as I described. I just perused through some of the UK ABU Tight Lines catalogues from 1971 till 1982, seems like the only anglers featured using such a reel (referred to by ABU as 'spincast' ) were boys (1982, 1973) and a girl who looks about 15 (1973) a certain message being given out by ABU it seems to me.

Re: Zebco Cardinals
They do look very easy to use! And one of the late '50's catalogues does say they are ideal for children!

I think the Garcia sticker isn't right?

Re: Zebco Cardinals
Good observation mate, better known as "the oval sticker" I have only ever seen that sticker on a 302 Salt Water reel, never on a 300.
I had a 302 "big foot" which had the sticker on in my collection which is why the sticker stood out to me, there was also another similar to that one which was oval with a sort of finger across the top of the sticker.![Thumbs Up :Thumb:](./images/smilies/icon_thumpb.gif)
