Walkerburt, do you know who wrote these? Both very good, but I prefer the warmth of the first one. That is a rail journey I’d have liked to have taken also.

I believe that the poet’s name was A.M.Harbord - it is beautifully written.
The second is attributed to T.C.Kingsmill Moore, author of “A Man May Fish”

I came across this wonderful drawing by the talented Mr Heath Robinson. The Leonardo of his age. Now there are computer games that do something similar and are probably as useful.

This topic jogged my memory to remember a book bought many moons ago and long forgot,'The Trent and other Poems' 1859,by John Joseph Briggs.A lot of this seems to revolve around the upper Trent in the Swarkstone area.Not exactly a bedtime read!
