The stainless bolt(s) arrived today, so the net went together for the first time (a bit of fettling required).
It measures 8' end to end and isn't as unwieldy as I was expecting. Apologies for the poor photos

What a great idea, I have an old 3 piece rod and the end section is broken. The first two sections together would make a great net handle.

Well, it works. First trip for the net. It handled some nice trout and grayling over a pound without disintegrating. So it should work fine for the roach it was made for. It is surprisingly light and easy to use compared to my latest shop bought version.

The MK V is in production. I had a bit of spare time today. I had enough hardwood to dowel to make another pair of arms. These ones have alloy ferrules on the bottom. The idea being to either make it a take apart or hinged frame, whatever takes my fancy. The arms have a much finer taper this time. Photos to follow when some more progress is made.

Well after the Christmas break I have got back to work on the next evolution of the net.
I have tapered the arms more than on the previous net (shades of the specimen group net) they are about half the thickness of the previous net. They deform slightly more side to side but more importantly, little more vertically. I have refrained from using intermediate whipping this time, as it is hardly visible on the MK IV when the net is fitted. I have also gone for spring clips at the tips instead of swivels. The main reason for this is that at the handle end the arms will be held in by the tension of the arms, so the heavier clips are needed.
The biggest departure is the base of the arms which I have fitted with ferrules cut from alloy tube. The males were gently tapped into place before shaping the arms. The next step will be to fashion a block/spreader to hold the females.
