A 500 went for £250 on ebay today. Sold quickly to a "buy it now" buyer. What do we think of that? Going rate or a one-off?!

....I thought it was a bit high. It looked like a good example but £250 is still double the going rate in my honest opinion.

....I bought one a couple of months back - I paid £120 I bit too much I thought at the time. I've not used it yet - I like to look at it though! Waiting for spring. Loop I also got a glass mark iv - I think you were advising me about these - it's also unused as yet!

I'm saving up for one but I can't afford that much. Me and Hovis have both asked Chubman about his that he has for sale but he hasn't been on of late, I don't think.

...as Robbi pointed out above, one went for £122 recently and they do go for less than £100 on a good (or bad!) day.

All i can say is sit on your money and wait, im sure one will come up thats more within your price range... for 250 im sure there are much better rods to be had.

....I fish with a chap who is a real connoisseur of cane - unlike me. He has many top examples - j james mark iv's etc - in his opinion if he had to settle on one rod it would be the 500. We fish small rivers for barbel, chub and carp in the 4-12lb range...nevertheless 250 is certainly over the top but perhaps the 500 is a match for rods that are perceived to be better quality...
