Sounds interesting. That is only about 10 miles from where I live. I wonder if it (and the fish) are still there? I wouldn't mind taking a drive out to explore.

Hard to say really. Most of my fishing has been done on well used waters.

One which springs to mind as a Little Britain Lake. This was created by digging out gravel. The transport for this was the nearby Grand Union Canal. To "join" the two they created what can only be described as a mini canal come ditch. Only about 3 or 4 feet deep, when we fished it in the 70s and about 70 yards long. We had some monumental catches of crucians (up to 100lb in a day). There were one or two biggish carp to around 20lb which I never saw but were caught occasionally.

Last time I visited, about 6-7 years ago it was fenced off, presumably all of the fish have long since gone.

Looks to be just back from the waterfront near the light coloured field at the top right. Looks like it may only be accessible across private land.

Thanks for those, some exploring to be done. I'm about 5 miles east of Callington so neither of these are far away. I'll have a scout round over the next couple of weeks and report back.

Well I made my first recce trip today to Tredidon Barton. The good news is that the lake is still there.



The bad news is that I will not be able to fish it. The upper lake together with the big house have been sold. The new owners will not allow angling. The lower lake although still in the hands of the original owners is not open to angling. There was a guy there fishing. I wandered over and had a chat. He said that one or two invited anglers (having been going there for 30 years) were still allowed to fish. The syndicate had been wound up and no day tickets are issued. He did say that there was a big problem with otter predation and showed me the remains of an upper double carp. He did catch a bream of about 3lb while I was there. It looks ideal and very atmospheric, if not a bit spooky. The water has the pale green tinge of an old quarry.

I'll try and visit the flooded railway line tomorrow.

Tracked down the flooded railway line

No sign of fish or fishing for many years. It is almost completely silted. Looks as if it would have been nice in years gone by

That looks like the pond that lie s south of the a38,west of saltash.Me and amate stumbled across it back in the 80s and we saw carp present.It was shallow back then.The pond at st germans was my favourite at that time,on the port eliot estate.A classic old estate lake that held a few decent carp to mid doubles,old stunted fish that looked ancient.I have photos of this lake and its resident from early 80s that ill put up when i work out how!

Small world

Secluded and tranquil fishing spots are few and far between in the south west. I haven't managed to find anything which even approaches the waters I used to fish as a kid. Most of the lakes seem to have been "commercialised" marked out, gravel filled bivvy pitches. Oh well, the search continues
