Had a few hours on a local canal this morning. Pleased to get out again and the usual small Rudd and Perch were most welcome. What was not welcome was the pack of size 6/0 worm hooks a previous visitor had left. I shudder to think what they were using them for but it could be that the talk of poaching and night lines on the local grapevine are not without foundation.

Drop shotting for perch often uses very big hooks but 6/0 maybe a bit too big. I always considered 6/0 a conger hook!

Des Taylor is one of the most successful drop shot anglers I know, and he swears by a big hook, but by big he means a 1/0.

Drop shot hooks are a totally different shape - view a few on YouTube under Carolina Rigs, etc!

Savage Gear and Gamakatsu(?) make them inc. weedless. Available on Amazon.

A 6/0 is far too big for me - except when catfishing abroad (200lb+ cats are still waiting for me!). I don't seafish either.

Some of these drop shot rigs have up to 7/0 hooks!

The smaller ones look ideal although I have not seen the swivel through the eye before.

Just looked at 'Lake Falcon' on YouTube with a Bass that could take a size 10/0 treble inside its mouth - huge!!

And a 175lb Alligator Gar!!!!!!

These are the ones Des Taylor uses. I saw him at the Perfishers AGM using them. They look really good.
