Being from a poor northern ex mining town...

Would a genuine from the time of the pits and glass works we once had donkey jacket be acceptable ?

Worn in conjunction with wooly jumper and corduroy trousers?

Just one more cast love, and I'll be on me way home

I know I've seen more donkey jackets than cane rods at my local dam

Years ago I used to have a cracking donkey jacket with leather shoulder and arm covering, fell to bits in the end.....

Yes I've had the pleasure of seeing them go downhill over the years
Tbf I did most of my growing up in Sthelens and well Carr mill is a place close to me
Worryingly if your Wigan and into eels we may have the whole six degrees of separation
Thing here
If I said Damien ......

Possibly, I grew up on the flashes, they are practically in my back garden, I still fish there a lot, times have changed though, the fishing went downhill but there's still plenty of great fishing, if you have a little bit of local knowledge & put in a bit of work.
Many people gave up and moved on to other waters, there is now a perpetual myth that there's hardly any fish left and it's too difficult, which works out well for me because I have a lot of water to myself now.
(eel fishing isn't my thing, it's just that eel is my name backwards)
