Frustration with searching on the forum

Hi , help please i am getting frustrated with searching and maybe there are some tricks that i am unaware of. I have recently purchased a Fosters Bros rod, that is supposedly called "the holding". I am trying to find out more about it, so here is the frustrating bit. If i search on the forum for "the holding" it ignores "the". And searches for "holding" which as you can imagine is hardly unique, so if there is anyway to override this i would appreciate some tips.

Regarding the rod it is a 8' spinning rod, complete with bag.
On rod is written in black ink. Fosters Bros ashbourne. And The Holding.

The label on the bag

Reads

Challenge brand
Fisters bros
Midland works
Ashbourne

And some other award info etc.

I cannot find any reference to a rod called the holding anywhere, does anybody have information please, it is split cane, with locking ferules.

Thanks

Why not contact this chap, he bought the Fosters brothers name when the shop closed.

Also try sending a PM to TFF member StephenWoolley who worked as a rod builder for Foster Bros, and have a look at his website :-

His phone number is there if you want to give him a call about your rod.

I doubt if you could find a better "search" function than that on any Forum :Hat: :Hat:

Quite right, maybe if the rod makers had used more proper names , we would not have the problem.
Searching for ambidex is no problem, searching for perfect or ideal, is a different story.

Have contacted the two gentlemen suggested above, i will update thread with any information received.

Many thanks

I don't think they were anticipating you doing a forum search when they built their rods.

Hi i emailed stephen woolley , and he gave me the following information.

fosters holding salmon spinning rod which they built in 7 1/2 ft circa 1950s for use with a fixed spool or multipling reel, for use with lines up to 12 lbs close whipped, with agatine rings throughout, cost twelve pounds 18 shllings.

I guess that was a lot of money back then.

Thanks for the help.
