Re: Recently 'unearthed' pictures
Hello All,
Have just heard from our illustrious Honorary President, May Lang, and she has provided further interesting background information to this photograph:
The picture itself was taken whilst pike fishing at Leeds Castle moat, and the angler behind May is the late Jack Opie. It was Jack, of course, who turned Dick Walker's antennae bite alarm idea into a commercial success, when his company introduced The Heron Bite Indicator.
The above picture is of my last Heron as bought: Like so many other carp fishers of the era, I converted my Herons to make them more reliable and suitable for the purpose; painting them black, fitting ex-GPO carbide tipped contacts, adding a light to the head, extending the cable(s), and making a bespoke sounder box, etc. With such modifications the Herons served us well for many years.
Besties,
Len.

Thank you May.
Not a fish was visible that first time I visited Beechmere; an utter
stillness brooded over the place and I felt the strange and sinister atmosphere which, so the story goes,
has been the cause of several suicides.’

Wonderful photographs

Wow.....I can just about make out the top of Leeds Castle from my cottage window.....about a mile away as the crow flies......angling history on my door step
