Some of you chaps may have heard of the large Gudgeon that reside in the River Wallington via the piscatorial exploits of The Sweetcorn Kid. I would estimate an average sized Wally Gonk would be around 5 inches long but catches of larger beauties are not uncommon, I caught this one yesterday, I would love to know what it weighed
you gotta love a gonk

Well back in the late 60's early 70's I caught quite a few gudgeon , but none anywhere remotely approaching 8 inches in length.
Could be a record ? ...... Or at least agudgeon of a lifetime .

I've always said that I believe the Wally holds record Gudgeon, 7 inch plus gonks get caught quite often.
the Wallyboys have a Gudgeon gala (W.I.G.G - Wallyboys invitational Gudgeon gala) and in last years event 3 of us had 7 inch plus gonks. The one in my avatar was the second one I had that day. Stu did an excellent write up of the event.

Are you sure they're not freshwater Gurnard? Apparently they're an invasive species from Japan thought to be brought over in aquarium pond weed and they're rife in the Wally!!!

Those are indeed super gonks. I think the ones in Waggoners Wells could give them a run for their money though, and I plan to capture some in the not too distant future.
