I was the surprise winner of an auction for a Dennis Pye Pike rod . The bid I put in was in my view unlikely to win , but surprises happen ! I have sent the rod off to be repaired and it will be back very soon in its new " guise " and hopefully be put to use for an end of season Pike . ( That is if the river gets back to where it is suppoosed to be and stops galavanting across the fields! )
This was the old rod .

I sent the rod to Mr Steve Boncey on recommendation from the forum and he has been great ! It did need a bit of work !

Well ....the rod is on its way back from its re furbishment ! I have seen the pictures and can hardly wait for it to arrive ! The river is back to its proper level and the chance of some Pike fishing is on the cards .
I wonder if anyone can recommend a perfect match of a reel to go with the Dennis Pye rod ?
I know DP would have used a center pin from reading his books , but most of my fishing will be from a boat and the 'pin is not the best option where some serious casting is required . ( Its my fault not the reel ! My wallis cast is not good from terra firma , but from a boat it is useless ! )
Any suggestions of a reel partner for the rod ?

My suggestion would be your DAM 330, Sir.

Grice & Young Big Piker! Or an Aerial 4in. Surely from a boat you have little need to cast? Just drop it overboard!

Personally I would use a pin in a boat but if fixed spools are your thing my Exalta's work well with mine..as do Altex's and Cardinal 66's - you pays your money and take your choice.

Unfortunately the river is too high for any fishing at the moment , so its first use will have to coincide with the floods reducing . I cannot wait !

I hope that I can christen it with a Pike or two .
