A Rudge too far.

I have a twelve foot Rudge float rod hibernating in my garage amount a shoal of other
projects that I keep in a large plastic dustbin.
It is in three sections and the cane is a pleasing straw colour, but there is no model indication. The top has a spliced in tip of hollow glass that looks original.
The rod is in need of new ferrules and rings, but the cane is straight and the handle is good,
so no real problems and it should make a fine gudgeon basher.
Should I keep the rod as it left the makers, or should I meddle and insert three feet of split cane in place of the glass tip?
Regards Tom.
